May 9, 2009, will mark the first memorial golf tournament for Anna's Gift.  Golfers and families will join nurses and hospital/foundation staff who have directly benefited from the foundation.  It will be a great opportunity for our family and friends to reflect and acknowledge the impact they have made by providing donations and support.

In October of 2009 we met with the nurses and foundation administer to determine plans for the coming year.  It was agreed we would order more supplies to support the coming year.  We also agreed we would plan to conduct another conference in 2010.

April 16, 2008
marked the first annual Perinatal Bereavement Conference hosted by CMC and Anna’s Gift.  Over 60 nurses from across the Southeast attended the three day conference to learn from RTS Bereavement Services renowned educators.  Two days were focused on training and the third day was specifically for managers and administrators to learn how to train others.

David had the chance to open up the conference and welcome everyone - letting them know how much we appreciate the effort they made to be there but most importantly how much we appreciate what they do day in and day out to help families cope with perinatal loss.  He stressed what an important role the nurses at CMC played in our experience.  He also conveyed how thankful we are for the gift that our daughter, Anna, has given us – “the gift to be more compassionate, more aware, more capable to see beyond life’s ordinary moments and the gift to make a difference…we can all make a lasting difference.  We would love nothing more than to see her gift passed on through each of you.”

We are excited and honored to have been given the opportunity to be a part of such a great effort – thank you to the nursing staff at CMC, Carolina’s Healthcare Foundation, RTS Bereavement Services and to all of our family and friends who donated to made this conference possible.

We know this is only the beginning of many steps to help make a difference.

On September 27, 2007, the first grant was received from the nurses of the CMC maternity areas. It is for memory boxes and keepsake impression kits. Enough of both items were requested to support patients well into next year.

Our next scheduled activity is to meet with the nurses and the foundation to confirm the details of the first bereavement training conference in Charlotte - coming this spring.

On July 13, 2007 we met with the nurses and the vice president of Carolina’s Healthcare Foundation to officially transfer donations made to Anna's Gift. The meeting was bittersweet – it felt good to finalize the details of Anna’s fund but it also brought back memories of our loss. The initial efforts will be focused on:

  • Sponsoring a Bereavement Services event in Charlotte – Scholarships will be offered to help nurses from various hospitals in the southeast attend
  • Purchasing mold equipment and materials
  • Purchasing baby rings for the memory boxes

We know the nurses are astounded and thrilled about what they will now be able to do.
